Enfield Council is actively engaging with residents of Edmonton, an area with a high flood risk due to Salmons Brook and Pymmes Brook running through it. The last significant flooding incident occurred in 2000 when Salmons Brook overflowed, affecting the Montagu Road area.
In response to the local flood risk, the council is seeking to understand residents’ experiences and provide information on flood preparedness. Edmonton Green experienced its highest recorded water level of 1.19m in 2000, with property flooding becoming a risk above 1.03m. The normal range for this stream is up to 0.8m. Meanwhile, Pymmes Brook poses a lesser threat, with the highest recorded water level in Edmonton at 1.45m in 1993, triggering property flooding only above 2.5m.
Residents are encouraged to participate in a questionnaire on the council’s website and attend a community engagement event to enhance their knowledge on flood protection measures. The questionnaire includes inquiries about the potential sources of flooding residents may face, such as river or sewer flooding, and their awareness of relevant flood management organizations.
The community engagement event will take place at Edmonton Green Library on Saturday, June 29, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. The deadline for completing the questionnaire is Sunday, May 26th. For more information and to participate in the consultation, residents can visit the Enfield Council’s Flood Awareness page dedicated to Edmonton.
