The M25 will be closed this upcoming weekend for the second time this year, between junction 9 and junction 10, to facilitate ongoing work on the £317 million Junction 10 improvement project. Earlier in March, National Highways took the extraordinary step of shutting down the motorway, leading to successful progress with the demolition of a bridge and installation of a gantry ahead of schedule.
The current phase of construction involves lifting concrete beams for the eastern gyratory bridge and another substantial gantry into position. To complete this phase, a full weekend closure is planned between junctions 9 (A243 Leatherhead) and 10 (A3 Wisley) from 9 p.m. on Friday, May 10, until 6 a.m. on Monday, May 13. The diversion routes for this second M25 closure are longer compared to the previous closure.
Jonathan Wade, National Highways’ senior project manager, emphasized that drivers should heed advice to travel only if absolutely necessary, considering the longer alternative routes and potential differences for over-height vehicles and other traffic. During the closure, there will be four diversion routes designated based on travel direction and vehicle type, each clearly signposted to guide drivers.
By following the signed diversion routes, drivers will not incur any Ultra Low Emission Zone charges that might typically apply. Detailed diversion routes for the second M25 weekend closure clockwise and anticlockwise directions are provided to assist drivers in navigating the affected areas efficiently.
