The London Youth Games Finals Festival is a three-day event taking place from June 28-30, offering young people the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of sporting legends such as Mo Farah, Christine Ohuruogu, and Bradley Wiggins, who started their careers competing in the London Youth Games before representing Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics.
This event, which is the culmination of over 50 qualifying events held from early February, celebrates the legacy of the past 12 years and includes more than 35 sports. Held across three Olympic and Paralympic legacy venues in the Park, the Finals Festival features the finals of nine sports – basketball, tennis, swimming, volleyball, dance, road cycling, netball, hockey, and aquathlon – with over 6,000 participants and spectators taking part in the action.
Working in collaboration with partners such as LLDC, GLL, London Sport, and Sport England, the London Youth Games Foundation aims to create the largest and most inclusive sports festival for young Londoners. The event focuses on making sports more accessible to young people from all backgrounds, drawing inspiration from the Olympic and Paralympic spirit to enhance opportunities for children throughout the city.
Notable figures like Olympic gold and silver medalist Christine Ohuruogu have praised the London Youth Games for its inclusivity and the chance it provides for young individuals to discover their passion for sports. The event’s chair, Prof Geoff Thompson MBE, highlighted the importance of engaging and inspiring young Londoners in this Olympic and Paralympic year.
From dance competitions to various sporting events, attendees can participate in a range of activities at different venues throughout the festival. Additionally, a community multi-sports festival will be held at the Copper Box Arena on June 30, offering free activities to all participants and spectators.
