Gunay Toguz was caught selling a blue alcopop to a minor at Ceylan Supermarket on Lordship Lane in Wood Green during a trading standards test purchase operation in February 2023. In a hearing at Highbury Magistrates Court on April 11, Toguz, residing on Dickens Lane in Tottenham, admitted to violating the Licensing Act 2033. As a consequence, he received a fine of £1,038 along with an additional cost of £800.

Court documents revealed that Toguz was also required to pay a £415 surcharge to support victim services, and a collection order was issued, mandating him to settle the amount by May 9. Eubert Malcolm, the assistant director for stronger and safer communities at Haringey Council, emphasized the importance of businesses in the borough abiding by licensing regulations. Residents were urged to report any businesses not complying with these rules to protect young individuals in the community. Malcolm stressed that there are no justifications for selling age-restricted items to minors.
