Ian Foster, aged 41 with no permanent address, was recently convicted of rape at Wood Green Crown Court, presided over at Hendon Magistrates’ Court on Friday. The court proceedings revealed that the victim, a woman in her 30s, had a prior acquaintance with Foster. They had visited a hotel in Edmonton on January 17, 2020, where a heated argument erupted, leading to Foster exhibiting signs of sexual jealousy.

Subsequently, during the early hours of January 18, Foster raped the woman as she slept following the argument. The victim reported the incident to the police on January 19, prompting an investigation by the North Area’s Public Protection team. Specialized officers supported her through the process of providing evidence against Foster.

Foster was apprehended on January 20 on suspicion of rape and violating his license conditions from a previous rape conviction in 2012. He was formally charged on January 13, 2023, and is slated for sentencing at Wood Green Crown Court on July 16. Detective Sergeant Myles Bossman, from the North Area Public Protection team, described Foster as a dangerous individual with a history of sexual violence and an evident lack of remorse for his actions.

The outcome of this case underscores the firm stance against gender-based violence, highlighting that perpetrators will face severe consequences for their actions. The victim’s courage and the cooperation of witnesses were crucial in securing justice in this case. All victims and witnesses of sexual assault are urged to promptly contact the authorities for support and intervention. If you need to report a crime, please reach out to the police at 101 or 999 in emergencies, where specially trained officers are ready to assist.
