Charity United Reformed Church Thames North Trust and developer Fortis Green LLP have collaborated to propose the construction of eight homes and a new clubhouse at Fortis Green Tennis Club to Haringey Council. The club, separate from Fortis Green LLP, currently features four clay tennis courts and a single-story clubhouse, which may be reduced to three courts if the development moves forward. United Reformed Church owns the land leased to the tennis club on a short-term basis. The planning statement indicates the club’s financial challenges and suggests that the housing scheme would not only generate revenue but also secure its long-term viability for the community. The statement further notes that the current courts do not meet Lawn Tennis Association standards and are in poor condition, hindering the attraction of new members. If approved, the development would see the redevelopment of the courts into synthetic clay courts and the construction of a three-story building in place of the existing clubhouse to include a new clubhouse on the ground floor and three flats above. Additionally, five terraced houses will be built along with car parking to replace one of the tennis courts. The development plan includes four four-bedroom homes, one two-bedroom home, and amenities such as off-street parking, cycling storage, and a new site access. The proposal does not include affordable housing. For more information and to provide feedback on the scheme, you can visit Haringey Council’s planning portal with reference number HGY/2024/0871.
