Tonight’s quarter-final clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich will be held at the Emirates Stadium. However, concerns have been raised after a pro-Islamic State media channel released posters calling for attacks at stadiums hosting quarter-final ties. This includes the Emirates Stadium in London and the Santiago Bernabeu, where Manchester City is set to face Real Madrid.
The Metropolitan Police in London have assured the public of a robust policing plan for the match. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan stated they are monitoring online and media reports regarding potential threats and working closely with Counter Terrorism Policing to ensure the safety of attendees. The UK terrorism threat level remains ‘substantial’, indicating a likely attack.
UEFA, the governing body of European football, has acknowledged the alleged terrorist threats and affirmed that all matches will proceed as scheduled with enhanced security measures in place. The French interior ministry confirmed increased police presence in Paris for the PSG vs. Barcelona match, while Madrid police have activated alert systems following the threats.
In a statement, Commissioner Adelekan emphasized the comprehensive policing plan in place for the game and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Despite the concerns, authorities and UEFA are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all matches.
